singapore.

vacillation- an act or instance of vacillating (not resolute/ wavering/ indecisive/ oscillating); a state of indecision or irresolution; unsteady movement/ fluctuation.

trying to pick up this habit of checking out the words that i come across and do not know what they meant (despite what the teachers use to tell us to have this habit, i was only inspired when i saw zakir doing this hence i am picking this up now and i wonder how long will this last which i can say, so far so good). funny how i find that word can relate to me somehow, more often in the past i suppose, i hope i don't vacillate much often now on. (crosses fingers on that though. lol)

one of the habits that i have cultivated from jc (maybe more of it post-jc but for gp) is to read the papers (straits time in specific), i would really devour every piece of information on the newspaper (but less often now, reading more on whichever headlines that interests and the rest i will just scrimp through)

I was reading this article few days ago: I'm not your typical s'porean. (the headline inspired me)

In which this one struck me in such a way cause that nowadays, singaporean seemed to be stereotype as one that should know how to speak hokkien (rather order in hokkien in coffeeshops for drinks using kopi siew tai and stuff like this, one thing that i had only learn recently after bothering to find out), and you certainly end your (every) sentences with la, lor, or hor? (after awhile during my stint of doing the census, i tried to add this behind my sentences to try to connect to the people.. sounds really weird hearing myself speak like this), and our so kiasu way of choping seats using tissue packets (which i don't really favour and find it quite absurb and well, rude. though i still respect the tissue-paper occupied seat) and so on. all these habits, doesn't seem to grow on me.
however some other sad fact i find that we can distinct ourselves is how realistic/ materialistic/ competitive we are. jolene was telling me that in her bf's country, when his friends asks about the partner, they ask with questions like is she beautiful? and such. imagine someone tells you that they have this special someone. what would your first few question be to him/ her be?

Recently, i was walking along the roads of Orchard road, someone approached me and give me the statement (less of a question) that i am from harbin (btw, that is in china). i don't suppose by saying that i will really pay more attention to them could i? maybe if i came from there, they would have been luckier. Though half the time i might have been secretly glad that people assume that i am from this/ that country, the other half, i was actually proud to be a Singaporean. Though i would really say that as years go by, i am really feeling less patriotic. (do you suddenly realise the link where you are out of the education / govt system, you take away this factor, there are nothing to influence you much? and that isn't the only reason) Furthermore, i do have the same sentiments with much of the fellow singaporeans that we are being flooded with much foreigners (use to agree that they are good for us etc from what we learn in school, but now, it is very evident, and the cons are disappointing as the pros doesn't really seemed to effect us directly)

Well, singapore is still great, would be greater without the immerse society pressures. and one thing too, nice food i suppose. though it seemed to lack some authenticity some days, but the rojak of everything seems nice and unique as well.

haha, those are just some random musings and rants that i have had. think i could have go on, but feeling sleepy from today. glad that i went for the free concert over at the botanical gardens featuring chopin pieces. the weather is fantastic despite logical reasoning that it may be muddy and wet (which was not the case surprisingly!) i took the long walk from novena-enroute cjc, sji (the old road that i use to walk down to island creamery) to the botanical gardens, it wasn't sunny and it was breezy (: before that, dropped by cluny court to get some snacks (while i was contemplating to reward myself with island creamery or not, decided not to). brought mrs fields fudgy cookies (which is on half price. lol) and macaroons (officially knowing them?). :D
feels really pleasant to just have a mini picnic, read a book (the wedding by nicholas sparks, the one i am on now) and later, enjoy some (classical) performances. idyllic i would say.
